Spelling

 I love my spell checker. Spell checker catches typos as well as misspelled words. If it flags a word with a red wavy line, right click the word for the short cut menu then left click the correct speling.

 There is spelling at the top of the list. All I have to do is click it and it will replace the word for me.

 

What about the the double words?

 Right click on the word and select Delete Repeated Word.

 

  1. Sometimes spell checker flags a word you want, like the name of a character. You can add it to your personal dictionary by clicking Add to Dictionary.

  1. Or choose to ignore it by clicking Ignore All to get rid of that pesky red line.

    Tip: Remember the computer can’t recognize that you typed bear, but you meant bare. 

     

    Those wavy green lines mean there is a grammar error. Handle them the same way as the red wavy lines.

 

Synonyms

Need a new, different, more exciting word?

Right click on a word then click Synonyms.

While you are here check out the Thesaurus.

 

Tip: So I won’t lose my train of thought and to save time, I don’t worry about those pesky red and green lines until I’m done typing all my text. Then I go back and right click, select the word I want, go on to the next one and do the same.

 

You can also go to Tools on the menu bar and click on Spelling and Grammar or hit F7.

 

AutoCorrect

 Let’s take a look at Auto Correct. To view the list of words that are automatically corrected, select Tools/AutoCorrect. This may be a hidden feature so click the double arrows at the bottom of the Tools menu listing if the AutoCorrect choice is not showing.

Many options including the accidental capitalization of the first two letters of a word and capitalization of the first word of the sentence can be automatically corrected from this page.

 

Look in the large box beneath Replace  With. Do you see the symbol for copyright?  It works just like a smiley face. Now you don’t need to go to symbols symbols. 

 

Tip: Sometimes you need more than Spell Checker. I use the online dictionary,  OneLook, and keep it on my desk top for easy access. Putting a website on your desktop is easy to do. Go to the website you want, look in the Address box and see that little icon at the beginning of the URL? You need to drag it onto your desktop. To see your desk top, click the Restore Down button (the middle one) in the upper right hand corner on your Title Bar to make the window smaller.
